Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis predicts that Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could become a reality within the next 5-10 years, achieving human-like cognitive abilities.
“I believe that in the next 5-10 years, we will start moving toward what we call artificial general intelligence—a system capable of demonstrating the complex skills humans can perform,” Hassabis told CNBC.
One of the main challenges in reaching this milestone is developing AI systems that can truly understand real-world contexts. This requires extensive training to refine the AI’s comprehension capabilities.
“The key question is how long it will take for AI to generalize planning, reasoning, and agent behavior—and then apply that knowledge to the real world,” he explained.
To advance AGI, DeepMind is currently training AI agents to master the game Starcraft, aiming to develop AI that can think and act similarly to humans.
